Ingredients
- Puff pastry dough, 10 sheets 10x10cm (approximately 4x4 inches) each
- 2 Apples (diced)
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- Cinnamon to taste
- Pinch of salt
- Sugar for topping, such as pearl sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).
- In a bowl, combine the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until the apples are coated in the sugar-cinnamon mixture. Alternatively, you can peel the apples and sprinkle them with some lemon juice before mixing them with sugar and cinnamon. This will help prevent browning and add a hint of citrus flavor to the filling.
- In order to create a fun and decorative effect on the puff pastry, you can make some cuts or lines on the dough before baking. This will not only give the appelflappen a unique look but also allow steam to escape during baking, preventing the pastry from puffing up too much.
- Place a spoonful of the apple mixture in the center of each pastry square.
- Fold one corner of the pastry over the apple filling to form a triangle.
- Use a fork to press and seal the edges of the pastry triangle.
- Transfer the appelflappen to a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until they are crispy and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
Enjoy your homemade appelflappen! They are delicious served warm with a cup of coffee or tea.
